Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has announced that local meat producers will be getting some funding help.
Announced on February 28, Rae shared that local meat processors, in partnership with the Governments of Canada and Ontario, will be receiving $396,000 through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP) program.
According to Rae, this funding will help meat producers in the area "to make upgrades that will increase production capacity, efficiency, and maintain Ontario’s high food safety standards."
Local producers splitting the funding include Golden Valley Farms Ltd. ($150,000), Domingos Meats (96,000) and Atwood Heritage Processing Ltd. ($150,000).
Across Ontario, 151 meat processors will be getting cost-share funding through the Meat Processors Capacity Improvement Initiative to help make upgrades.
The province claims that this funding builds on previous investments of over $14 million in the Meat Processors Capacity Improvement Initiative funded through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) since 2020.
“Our government understands the importance of supporting our local meat processors,” Rae said. “It is essential that we provide our local processors with the resources to improve productivity, efficiency, and food safety. These investments will ensure our local agriculture and food processing sector continues to grow.”
“The Meat Processors Capacity Improvement Initiative is a prime example of how our government is making the right investments in the right places,” added Lisa Thompson, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “By supporting meat processors who are working to improve efficiencies and increase capacity, we’re ensuring that Ontario’s meat processing sector can compete globally and opening doors to new opportunities.”
