CNOY events raise over $240,000 across Huron-Perth

United Way Perth-Huron has announced the fundraising results from Coldest Night of the Year events held over the weekend.

The Goderich event, co-organized by the Goderich & Area Community Committee, is 96 per cent of the way to its goal of $130,000, having raised nearly $125,500 so far.

“Thank you to everyone for supporting this year’s event and making it such a success," said Michelle Millar, United Way’s Community Development Manager, Goderich and area. "We also wanted to remind people that, if you haven’t given to Coldest Night but would still like to support vulnerable local people, donations are open until March 31 at cnoy.org.”

In total, 290 walkers took part in the event. The top five fundraising teams were Bernie’s Bunch, The Town of Goderich, Wonderful Walking Women, Donnelly Murphy Dames and Seaforth Community Circle.

The top five individual fundraisers were Randy Carroll, Bernice Glenn, Cheryl Dunn, Dianne Wood and Jaden Mitchell.

The North Perth walk has raised $53,984 so far - 77 per cent of its $70,000 goal.

The Listowel event had 132 walkers take part. The top five teams were Ward & Uptigrove, The Cox Family & Friends, Journey, United North Perth, and Jubilation Station.

Top 5 individual fundraisers are Tom Soltys, Stacey Romat, Jakob Greydanus, Liam Greydanus, and Melanie Koch Nichol.

Elsewhere, the Exeter walk topped its fundraising goal of $45,000 by over $2,000.

There were 121 walkers that took part in the fundraiser for the Southern Huron Connection Centre. The top five fundraisers were Pat O'Rourke, Cheryl Mason, Brian Hall, John Smits and Audrey Boersma.

The Wingham walk has raised $18,000 so far.

Additionally, in Stratford, the CNOY walk was a great success, as well.

460 walkers helped the Stratford walk crack the top four walks in all of Canada. The top five fundraising teams were The Sweet Samuels, Monteith Ritsma Phillips, Team Haggis, Stratford Anglican Churches and Walking Soccer Sloths.

The top five individual fundraisers were Martin Ritsma, Jana Bayer-Smith, Lucas Ryan, Marilyn Holmes and Sandra Sousa. Donations are accepted at cnoy.org until March 31.

Overall, $204,778 was raised in support of Shelterlink and United Way’s Stratford Connection Centre.
