SIU clears Collingwood officer after suspect falls from roof

A Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a suspect fell off of a roof last year.

On October 15, 2023, OPP officers were dispatched to a residence in Collingwood to respond to a reported domestic disturbance.

According to the SIU report, a man and woman were on the front lawn of the home and upon seeing the officers, the 38-year-old man entered the home.

"At some point, he made his way to the second-floor, opened a west-facing window and climbed out onto the sloped roof of a porch. The man slid down the roof and fell to the ground, fracturing his left ankle in the process," read the report.

Because OPP officers were present at the time of the fall, the SIU was notified of the incident and initiated an investigation.

However, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s injury.
