Paisley kicks off 150 year celebration this weekend

The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie is inviting everyone to celebrate 150 years of Paisley this Saturday.

The village, which was first incorporated in 1874, will celebrate a century and a half of existence this year, and its kick-off event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. February 17.

Ross Street from Church Street to Cambridge Street will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for drop-in road hockey with the Paisley Fire Fighters.

Events will also occur across downtown at the Treasure Chest Museum, the Paisley Community Centre, the Bruce County Public Library Paisley Branch, the Paisley Royal Canadian Legion, the Historic Hose Tower, and Orchard’s Landing.

Street parking is available and overflow parking can be found at the Paisley Community Centre and the Freshmart.

"Paisley has a rich history rooted in agriculture and entrepreneurship," said Arran-Elderslie Mayor, Steve Hammell. "It has seen tremendous momentum since its incorporation in 1874. The rejuvenation, creativity and personality Paisley is known for can be credited to a passionate and dedicated community of residents, business owners and volunteer groups. The Municipality is proud to be home to this vibrant community."

Additional events in honour of Paisley’s 150th year of incorporation are scheduled throughout the year and will be shared on the Municipality’s Facebook Page or Community Calendar when more details are announced.
