Meaford car stolen after it was left running

Grey Bruce OPP are reminding drivers to never leave their vehicles running, after one was stolen right from under a Meaford resident's nose.

Police say Thursday morning, around 8:30 a.m., a vehicle owner reported their 2003 grey Chevrolet Impala was stolen from Trowbridge Street.

The owner left their car running and was approximately 15 metres away, retrieving an item, when they heard the door shut and saw the vehicle drive eastbound on Berry Street.

The car has the licence plate number BYVS-361.

Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Police also recommend to decrease the risk of auto theft that drivers never leave a running vehicle unattended, always lock their doors and roll up windows, keep valuables out of sight, and always park in a well-lit area during extended parking periods.
