The anticipated opening of the new Beavercrest Community School in Markdale this September has hit a roadblock, as the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) announced on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 that the facility will not be ready as planned.
Despite the setback, the BWDSB reassured the community that the existing school will continue its operations as usual in the upcoming fall semester, with plans to determine a new opening date for the new facility in due course.
The delay is not expected to disrupt school operations, and the board will closely monitor the situation moving forward.
Deliveries of structural steel for the school's shell have commenced, and planning for school fixtures, furnishings, and equipment is in progress.
The setback comes after the BWDSB's groundbreaking ceremony in July, marking the commencement of construction at 101 Main Street East. The new facility, in addition to classrooms, will house a two-room childcare center and a two-room EarlyON center.
