Owen Sound Police seize $29,000 worth of fentanyl

Owen Sound Police say they seized a large of quantity of drugs after a traffic stop over the weekend.

On Sunday, January 22 around 4 a.m. a patrol member observed a vehicle committing a Highway Traffic Act violation in the downtown core.

Police say the officer found that the driver was prohibited from driving, had a suspended licence and was wanted on a province-wide warrant.

The man was arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Police allegedly found 144 grams of fentanyl, 52 grams of cocaine, and more than $10,000 in Canadian currency.

The street value of the fentanyl is approximately $29,000 and the cocaine is approximately $5000.

A 32-year-old Mississauga man and a 22-year-old Brantford man were jointly charged with: two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both were held for a bail hearing in Owen Sound and remain in custody.

Police say the seizure of Fentanyl is significant, noting that since 2020, they've attended 39 deaths in Owen Sound in which the cause of death has been suspected drug toxicity. Fentanyl was the drug responsible for the deaths in the majority of cases
