Saugeen Shores parking plans presented

Residents of Saugeen Shores will get a chance to view and comment on proposed recommendations of the Downtown Parking Study this week.

The town is developing parking strategies for both Port Elgin's and Southampton's downtown areas to address how the community wants to manage parking assets.

After gathering input at two public sessions in October, staff looked at comprehensive data, and drafted recommendations on how to move forward and will present them to the public.

The report suggests solutions like expanded parking supply, secure bicycle parking and install additional bike racks, more signage, expanded enforcement, and an annual parking guide publication.

People can discuss the recommendation at two upcoming public sessions. One takes place at Southampton Town Hall, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The other session is in Port Elgin at Rotary Hall at The Plex Tuesday, January 23, 2024, between 5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Currently the municipality offers public parking at:

Port Elgin Beach

The corner of Green Street and Bricker Street

The Southampton Coliseum at High Street and Albert Street
