With a new municipal building fully up and running, decisions had to be made on what to do with the old West Perth municipal building in Mitchell.
Darcey Cook, Manager of Facilities and Director of Community Services, says council has made a decision.
"Council passed the decision to go ahead with tendering the demolition of the old municipal office just due to the condition of the building. So we will be moving ahead, obviously that will dictate the price from the market, and we will bring it back to council for confirmation at a later date," Cook explained.
Cook says the request for proposals have gone out and tenders will be brought back to council sometime in the spring, where they will have a better idea of the cost for the demolition.
"We don't know the exact cost right now, but we're estimating the cost at around $200,000. We'd be looking at early spring, I would think, early to mid-spring between March and May all depending on how everything goes with the tendering process," added Cook.
During the process, Cook points out that there will be some public consultation regarding the land.
"We definitely feel that this land is very valuable to the community. There could be all kinds of options on what we do with the site once the building's down and it's remediated. So we will be going out for public open houses and public consultations through online surveys to figure out what the public is interested in for the site," Cook shared.
Cook says the online surveys will likely start in the spring.
