South Huron budget set for 2024

The Municipality of South Huron passed its 2024 budget on Monday, with a slight tax increase coming for residents.

Rural Wards 1 and 3 will see a levy increase of around 3.91 per cent, while urban residents in Ward 2 will get around a 1.92 per cent increase.

The taxes will go towards a budget that aims to maintain service levels while also funding some major capital projects, Director of Financial Services Julia Warwick told council.

"In 2024, we're investing over $13.5 million in capital projects," she said. "So we've got 6.8 kilometres of road resurfacing, we have the urban reconstruction project on Main Street North, which includes grant funding of $3 million in relation to the connecting links. And then a few facility capital projects at the South Huron rec centre, like the kitchen exhaust, roof replacement, dehumidifier and exterior steel."

There is also a major water main replacement in Dashwood, a joint project with the county.

The tax rate at the county level has not been set yet, as Huron County's budget discussions are ongoing.
