North Perth Council has decided to sell the old Monkton Library property.
Jeff Newell, Manager of Facilities, says the old property is being put up for sale for a simple reason.
"The old Monkton Library was replaced by the new one at the site of the Elma Logan Recreation Complex, it was part of a renovation that was done a couple of years ago. So the old Monkton Library, the original one on Winstanley Street, has been seen as surplus, and we'll be putting that up for sale," Newell shared.
Newell adds the next step will be contacting a realtor.
"The next step will be contacting a realtor and having it listed with that company. Likely the asking price will be about $135,000," added Newell.
In terms of what could go into the building, Newell says that's still to be decided but it likely won't be changing its current designation.
"There has been some discussion with regards to keeping it designated as a hamlet village commercial, which refers to the designation for accommodation within that facility. So it wouldn't be deemed as a residential property, it would still stay as a commercial property," Newell stated.
