Funding requested for Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton

The 125-year-old Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton saw a large number of upgrades in 2023.

Committee member Bob McCulloch told Brockton council this week some major projects were completed, leaving the hall in better shape than it has been in the last 50 years

"There was about $80,000 in expenditures this year. It sounds like a spending spree," he said. "But we really spent money surgically and frugally and we think we got huge value for the dollars."

Security upgrades, buttress repairs, and plumbing and electrical services were among improvements made in the past year. The County Towne Players donated a theatre scaffold, blackout blinds and made sound and light upgrades worth a total of $20,000. And the Heritage Committee donated $35,000 to protect existing windows.

However, McCulloch said more work needs to be done to continue maintaining the facility, and he asked council for $10,000 in funding for 2024. The request will be considered during budget discussions.

Upcoming projects include replacing the asphalt sections of the roof, replacing furnaces, and air conditioners, updating ventilation, washroom renovations and additional security.
