Police investigating fatal crash involving horse-drawn buggy

A crash between a horse-drawn buggy and a vehicle has resulted in a fatality.

On December 18 just after 4 p.m., Perth County OPP responded alongside Perth County Paramedic Services, and the Perth East Fire Department, to a serious motor vehicle collision on Line 71, west of Perth Road 140 in North Perth. A passenger vehicle and horse drawn buggy had collided.

The two riders in the horse-drawn buggy were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. One of the riders, a 13-year-old, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other rider, an 8-year-old, was transported to a trauma centre. The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The horse pulling the buggy also died as a result of the crash. Line 71 was closed for over 3 hours, but has since reopened.

Police continue to investigate this crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Perth County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
