Walkerton's skating oval moving to community centre

Walkerton will be moving its outdoor skating oval across the river this winter.

For the last three years, the Municipality of Brockton has been operating the outdoor skating trail at Lobies Park.

However at Tuesday's council meeting, the parks department submitted a report to council recommending a relocation to the Walkerton Community Centre Ball Diamonds.

The report noted moving it would allow for a longer track, better lighting and easy access to the community centre for attendees to warm up.

Deputy Mayor James Lang says it was time for a change.

"It ran very well and it was a neat location at Lobies (Park)," he said. "But this is very much more practical and makes a lot more sense for our residents and definitely our staff. This is very exciting and hopefully the cold does come so we can make this happen."

Poor weather resulted in the oval being open for just two days in 2023.
