The Town of Saugeen Shores has approved in principle its spending plan for the new year.
Town Council has agreed on a 2024 budget and spending plan, which includes a blended property tax increase of 4.99 per cent. The median-assessed Saugeen Shores household will pay an additional $207 per year.
"This plan, for both operations and capital assets, is a comprehensive roadmap for where we are and where we want to get to as a community," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. "Affordable housing, natural environment, and quality of life are all addressed with the taxpayer in mind. I am confident we are well on our way to securing the long-term future for Saugeen Shores."
The plan is based for the first time on the Town's ten-year Asset Management Plan (AMP), laying out details of core assets such as roads, water and wastewater, and others.
Included in the budget are the start of construction on a new aquatics centre, upgrades to the Town's wastewater system, maintained support for those needing housing help, and funding for the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre. The plan also called for menstrual products to be made available free of charge at the Plex, the Coliseum, and the Centennial Pool.
The spending plan also includes a future Infrastructure Special Levy to support the ten-year capital plan, representing an annual increase of $48.96 for the average Saugeen Shores household.
The budget will be adopted at the council meeting on January 8, 2024.
