The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has announced a vacancy for Councillor, and invites those interested in filling the spot to participate in the appointment process.
The opening follows the resignation of former mayor Garry Michi. Former Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland moved to Mayor, while former councillor Caleb Hull was appointed Deputy Mayor last month.
The Municipal Act states that within 60 days of declaring a council position vacant, council must decide whether to fill the vacancy through a by-election, or by appointment, for the remainder of the council term.
Eligible candidates must be 18 or older, Canadian citizens, and residents or landowners within the town. The application deadline is January 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM, and forms are accepted in-person at the Clerk’s Division during business hours.
"The vacancy within our Council presents an opportunity to further enrich our inclusive and transparent governance model. Through this appointment process, we aim to engage our community's talented individuals, ensuring a fair and equitable representation that upholds the values of transparency, fairness, and inclusivity. Together, we seek a passionate individual committed to serving our community, driving progress, and shaping the future of South Bruce Peninsula." said Mayor Kirkland.
The successful appointee will hold office until November 14, 2026.
