ACW updating community grants applications

Changes are coming to how you'll apply for community grants in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

The Township adopted a new community grants policy at last week's council meeting, including setting a maximum of $50,000 annually to be included in the budget for the program.

Grant funding for local non-profits will now be considered in one of six categories: Tourism and Economic Development, Community Safety and Well-being, The Arts, Culture and Heritage, Environmental Awareness and Sustainability, or Other.

There is also a number of requests that will be found ineligible, like asking for funding on a retroactive basis or for a project that is already completed or to cover budget deficits.

Deputy Clerk Kaitlin Bos explained to council how the new format would work.

"Per the policy, the person in the Deputy Clerk's role will administer the grant program, which will include accepting the applications and bringing a report to council," she said. "At this time it would be the funding for the six categories, so I would present what was being asked and which categories they fit into, and council would be able to determine which areas they would like to approve the funding for, if we exceeded the $50,000."

There will also be a December 21 info session for those that want to learn more. Those that want to participate can email the Township at communications@acwtownship.ca.
