Huron-Kinloss partners with NWMO to purchase new landfill compactor

Huron-Kinloss has acquired a new landfill compactor with some help from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.

The Township says the used Caterpillar 816K Landfill Compactor will enhance compaction performance, reduced maintenance costs and optimize air space utilization at the Huron Landfill.

Director of Public Works John Yungblut says the township was facing challenges with existing equipment, and was seeking a more reliable solution.

“Over the years, we have faced challenges related to compaction performance, increased repair costs, and frequent breakdowns due to the wear and tear of our existing equipment," he said. "The reliable operation of landfill compactors is crucial to maximize the available airspace within the landfill, making efficient waste management possible while minimizing environmental impact.”

He says NWMO's commitment to sustainable waste management aligns with the township's goals.
