A fire that claimed a life in Kincardine is being investigated.
On November 24, Municipality of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services from both Kincardine and Tiverton stations responded to a residential fire on Whippoorwill Lane in Kincardine.
The first crew on site called for mutual aid, with four fire stations from three other municipalities responding, as well. Crews were met with heavy smoke and flames, which prevented initial efforts to gain entry to the residence.
Crews managed to knock the fire down enough that firefighters could enter the home, where unfortunately, one person was found deceased. The victim's identity is being withheld until the family can be notified.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently unknown, and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to help investigate.
“We can confirm that a person was found deceased at the scene, and per standard procedure the Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted,” said Deputy Fire Chief Ron Simmons. “The investigation is ongoing. At this time, I would like to extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim on behalf of the Municipality of Kincardine’s Fire and Emergency Services.”
Simmons also thanked the first responders for their efforts on the scene.
