The St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation has reached an amazing goal.
After launching the Here For You Today, Building For Tomorrow capital campaign in 2021, the foundation has hit its $3 million goal. Bernice De Decker, Communications and Fundraising Coordinator for the foundation, says she's thrilled they hit the goal in two years, and the campaign was for major renovations to the St. Marys Memorial Hospital's east and west wings.
"Right now we are in Phase 1, and construction started in June for the east wing, which should be wrapping up early in 2024. Then, we will start the west wing, so yeah, it's a really exciting time that we reached the goal and we couldn't have done it without community support, so we're super grateful," De Decker enthused.
De Decker adds that the renovations include some much needed enhancements.
"All new plumbing and electrical throughout the hospital, and in the east end specifically, there is a new isolation room being installed with a barrier-free washroom, as well. We have new headwalls being installed and patient lifts on all the patient beds," explained De Decker.
After wrapping up a very ambitious campaign, De Decker says this never could have happened with support from the community.
"We are so appreciative and so lucky and fortunate to have a hospital in such a small community. We honestly couldn't have done this without that community support, and it just meant so much to all those involved," De Decker concluded.
