A recent outbreak has been declared over at a local hospital.
On October 25, the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance announced an outbreak of Rhinovirus and Parainfluenza at Stratford General Hospital on level 3 of the Inpatient Unit.
With the outbreak now over, admissions and transfers are once again allowed on the unit. Family and caregiver presence has also been restored.
Rhinovirus is the cause of the common cold but can be far more serious for those with compromised immune systems.
“While this outbreak is over, we can’t stress enough the importance of layering up your protection to help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses that are circulating in Huron Perth,” said Erica Jensen, Manager Quality, Patient Safety & Infection Control. “Keep up-to-date with your flu and COVID-19 vaccines, wear a mask when needed, wash your hands often and stay home if you are feeling sick.”
