Conversation to be held on local solutions to housing

Community Foundation Grey Bruce will host a conversation, discussing the ongoing housing crisis and local solutions.

The Social Impact Investing for Community Building and Housing Solutions conversation will take place on November 2 at Harmony Centre Owen Sound.

It will be hosted by the foundation in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce and the Institute of Southern Georgian Bay.

Attendees can look forward to hearing from three panelists: Ryan Deska, Julia Grady, and Randall Howard, bringing forth information on how they are tackling the housing crisis in their communities of Guelph and Wellington County.

"I think it's going to be a very inspiring conversation that creates a new understanding of how people who are interested in forging solutions can actually make a local investment towards change," said Stuart Reid, executive director of Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

Reid said a new initiative is the community bonds program. Deska has spearheaded the project in Guelph Wellington.

"Community bond is a way for local people to invest locally and get a return," said Reid. "It's a way for the agency to raise capital to kickstart some of its building projects. We really want to learn about this mechanism to see if its something we can utilize in Grey Bruce."

Anyone looking to attend can do so by registering on Community Foundation Grey Bruce's website. If you're unable to attend in person, a live stream will also be provided.
