If you have thoughts on ways to improve parking efficiency in downtown Port Elgin and Southampton, the Town of Saugeen Shores wants to hear from you.
The town is currently running an online parking survey and will also hold events in Port Elgin on October 17 and Southampton on October 18 where residents can share their thoughts.
The survey is looking to answer whether there's a need to expand the supply to address peak demands during the summer, and what kinds of alternatives solutions to parking there are to avoid the need for costly construction of new municipal lots.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says one idea they're not entertaining is paid parking.
"There's certainly no discussion on paid parking. At this time, I can tell you point blank that's something I don't support, personally," he said. "It's more a question of: how much parking to we need to provide? What do we need in terms of facilities? How many spaces do we need to service the (downtown) core? And are we optimizing that space appropriately to make sure we have enough parking and it's safe parking."
