South Bruce OPP are reminding people to be wary of fraud following a recent scam.
A Huron-Kinloss resident is out $9,500 after clicking on a pop-up window while using the computer. The pop-up advised that there was an error with the computer, and the victim called a service agent.
Police were told by the victim that an overpayment scam was then used by the alleged service agent, and the victim ended up paying the scammer. However, police were able to track the money and recover the entire lost sum for the victim.
Police are asking that you always be cautious with unsolicited email, phone calls, letters, even visitors at your door. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it. Always be certain who you are dealing with before you ever consider sending money or sharing personal information.
