Grey Bruce Public Health (GBPH) has issued an alert following a series of drug overdoses.
Within five days, four overdoses took place, one of which is a probable fentanyl-related death. Three of the four are suspected to be fentanyl-related, however the toxicology reports have yet to come back.
Public Health said one of the non-fatal overdoses is suspected to be methamphetamine-related, but signs of opioid overdose were present.
"This alert is intended to advise people to use extreme caution when using unregulated street drugs and follow harm reduction strategies, in particular, avoiding using drugs alone or texting or calling the National Overdose Response Service (NORS) if you are using drugs alone," said Monica Blair, GBPH's harm reduction program manager.
Other recommendations from Public Health include taking extra caution mixing drugs, including alcohol, going slow, starting with a low dose and increasing slowly, especially with new drugs, and get overdose prevention training and carry a naloxone kit.
It reminds the public to call 911 if you see or experience an overdose.
