The Chesley Hospital's emergency department will be shut down six of the next seven days, as the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) announced more closures heading into the long weekend.
Chesley's ER will be closed tonight (August 29) as of 5 p.m. and all day tomorrow (August 30), and reopen Thursday (August 31) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The emergency department will then close until next Wednesday, reopening at 7 a.m. on Sept. 6.
The Durham Hospital's ER will also have three overnight closures in the coming week, starting tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. It will also close overnight Friday (September 1) and Sunday (September 3). In each instance, it will reopen the following morning at 7 a.m.
Finally, the Walkerton Emergency Department will close overnight on Tuesday, September 5 and reopen Wednesday, September 6 at 7 a.m.
SBGHC says staffing shortages are the reason behind the closures.
Ambulance by-pass will be undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open ED.
The Hanover and District Hospital is the closest ER to all three locations. Patients should expect longer wait times during the nearby closures.
