Residents can help the Town of Saugeen Shores address current and future parking needs for the downtowns of both Port Elgin and Southampton.
The project is the result of a recommendation in the Town’s 2020 Transportation Master Plan. It's expected to result in a plan on how the community can manage its valuable parking assets
Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited has been hired by the municipality to do the study. The study will look at issues such as expanded supply for peak demands, and how to meet demands without constructing new municipal lots. It will assess future needs, shifts in travel behaviour, and how to improve the parking experience.
The first section of the study covers options for community interaction, such as consultation with businesses, citizens, and other stakeholders, which is expected take place this fall. The project will also include a Community Survey to collect input on downtown parking experiences. More information will be provided by the Town as it becomes available.
Between August 26 and 30, 2023, Paradigm will also perform parking inventory field surveys. This project will entail gathering information on the amount of automobiles parked in the downtown areas of Port Elgin and Southampton. This work will not affect road or pavement access.
