Backyard chickens being considered in Georgian Bluffs

Residents will have a chance to comment about the idea of allowing back yard chickens in residential areas within the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The Township's current by-law does not allow livestock in areas outside of Agricultural or Rural zones, and restricts livestock to lots with a minimum lot area of 0.8 hectares, outside of residential areas.

The Township wants to find out if residents think regulations are fair or "fowl" as staff and council consider the feasibility and desirability of allowing backyard chickens in other residential areas. They will also consider the well-being of residents, animals, and the community.

"Your feedback will play a significant role in determining whether backyard chickens could become a part of our residential landscape," said the Township's Principal Planner, Michael Benner. "Together, we can strike a balance that respects the desires of our community members while ensuring the harmony of our neighbourhoods."
