Police reminding people to stay vigilant against fraud

The Grey Bruce OPP are reminding residents to stay vigilant after they saw an influx in fraudulent calls over two days.

On August 16, a person reported they sent $900 to an e-commerce investment company. Once the victim tried to get back in contact, the website had been shut down.

On the same day, another victim bought concert tickets from an online shop and e-transferred $150 to the seller. The seller stopped communicating with the buyer.

In three more incidents on August 17, one person reported a loss of $2,000 thought to be invested in Elon Musk's Super Computers, another reported identity theft after a loan was taken out in their name, and a final victim bought an item online, but received a different product.

To avoid becoming a victim, police say don't send money until you've seen and tested an item, do your research on investments and make sure the company is real, shred all documents with sensitive information, and remember, if it's too good to be true or something seems off, it's likely a scam.
