Now that Bruce County has finished work on the Transit and Demand Feasibility Study, they would like feedback from residents.
The county contracted Arcadis IBI Group to carry out the research, and that resulted in the identification of five "diverse transport needs" including access jobs and services from smaller communities, moving around larger urban centres, and helping people get to tourist attractions.
Now people can provide input on those needs to help staff set priorities as work continues to develop transit options. The county currently does not have a comprehensive public transport system.
Residents can find a new brief online survey for phase 2 of the study, which is anonymous. The survey is open until September 1, 2023. People can pick up a copy at several County facilities, such as the Walkerton Administration Centre, local libraries, the museum, the Penetangore Hub, Lakeshore Hub, or Peninsula Hub.
“The input of residents, businesses, and visitors traveling in the communities of Bruce County is critical to understanding the need and demand for transit,” added Warden Chris Peabody. “Council and Staff are eager to hear additional feedback from you as we consider the feasibility of different transit options to inform the future of transit in Bruce County.”
The county received $50,000 in funding for the study from the federal Rural Transit Solution Fund, and another $100,000 has been budgeted by the county for the project.
The Bruce County Master Transportation Plan, which was finished in 2021 and recommended public transportation, served as the basis for the county's Transit Demand and Feasibility Study.
