Stratford officer charged with assault following SIU investigation

Ontario's police watchdog has charged a Stratford Police Service (SPS) officer after investigating a February arrest.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was looking into the arrest of a 35-year-old man at a transit terminal in downtown Stratford. According to police, a struggle ensued during the man's arrest, which resulted in serious injuries to the suspect.

As a result of the SIU investigation, SPS Constable Cody Millian has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Cst. Millian is expected to appear in Stratford court on September 11, 2023.

No further details will be provided, as the matter is now before the courts.

The SIU is an independent government agency, called in to investigate the conduct of police officers in cases of death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
