The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) is working with Water's Edge Environmental Solutions to update floodplain mapping in the Southampton area.
The update will help increase community resilience and safety by providing more information about flood dangers and appropriate protection strategies.
The field survey will concentrate on sites within certain area and it will take place until October 2023. Surveyors will gather important information, such as measurements of culverts, structures, and
cross sections of the local river or creek. the information will help accurate map flood dangers in the region. The conservation authority promises Water's Edge surveyors will carry out their tasks in accordance with the absolute respect for private property.
Landowners' participation and suggestions are part of the process and a public informational event is being planned for the autumn or winter of 2023. This will give neighbourhood residents a chance to look through the information, ask questions, and offer comments.
This project is supported by the Town of Saugeen Shores, along with a government funding program.
