Police warning citizens of ongoing fraud scam

Residents are being reminded of the dangers of fraud following a recent scam detected in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service says people should be wary of scammers calling and pretending to be representatives from a financial institution. One such scam has been reported where the suspects are using modified call ID to make it appear like the call is coming from the Attorney General’s office or another legitimate justice partner.

Scammers are trying to obtain sensitive information from victims to commit fraud or identity theft. Police are reminding everyone that members of financial institutions or justice system representatives will not make these types of calls.
