The Director of the United Way Perth Huron's Social Research and Planning Council presented some preliminary figures from a Quality of Life report they're preparing at a recent Sustainable Huron event.
Kristin Crane expects the full report to be released this fall, but she outlined some of the things they looked at such as demographic trends that have changed over the last few years.
“There's a pretty stark comparison between Huron and Perth Counties and Ontario as a whole when it comes to diversity in our community." said Crain. "In Huron about two per cent of the population is racialized whereas in the province it is 34 per cent.”
Crane said some 2022 data provided some very encouraging statistics for Huron and Perth about health and well being in our region.
"And 74 per cent of Huron residents rated their well being as excellent or very good for their mental well being and in Ontario that's 58 per cent. So it's a very positive trend," she explained.
Crane explained the complete report will be released later this fall and will look at things like what strengths we have in our communities and what opportunities exist in Huron and Perth. She also pointed out that something significant is the number of people who volunteer in rural communities and provide services the communities wouldn't have without them.
