Perth East is looking to make some upgrades at the Greenwood Park in Milverton.
Director of Recreation Becky Westman says the municipality completed a parks renewal strategic plan in 2021, and one of the recommendations was to revitalize Greenwood Park. As Westman points out, the park has become quite dated.
"Some of the play structure has been pulled out of there, due to its age and condition. The washrooms were taken down a number of years ago, and there's also a pavilion there that needs some retrofitting, as well," Westman noted.
Westman says they want to do the upgrades in steps, and this summer they're hoping to rebuild the park washrooms and make them fully accessible. Westman says the cost would be roughly $75,000, and they will be applying for a government grant to help, and that could mean construction would get underway fairly soon.
"If we were successful with the grant application, construction would have to be completed by March of 2024. We haven't submitted the application for the grant just yet, but it will be for $60,000," Westman said.
That would leave roughly $15,000 left to fundraise, and Westman says the Milverton Lions Club wants to partner on the project and help raise money for the washrooms and tree planting.
