Four locals compete for U23 Men’s World Cup

Four Midwestern Ontarians will represent Team Canada when the 2023 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup gets underway in Argentina this weekend.

Mason and Mitch McKay of Tavistock, Owen Torrie of Williamsford, and Reese Yantzi of Shakespeare are part of the 16-player team that will take on the world's best from April 15-23, in Parana, Argentina.

Canada just completed a four-game exhibition series against the  U.S. National Team in Vero Beach, Florida. Both teams took two games. They'll have a few more warm-up games after arriving in South America against Israel, Australia, and Argentina.

Team Canada will opens up the tournament against Venezuela at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.

Canada was awarded a wild card spot in December to participate in the tournament and will join the 11 other countries who qualified for the event through continental qualifiers held in 2022.
