Hanover man arrested after fight ends in stabbing

Police in Hanover have arrested a man accused of stabbing someone he knew in an incident that happened near the downtown area on Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of 10th Avenue and 12th Street at around 3:45 p.m. on March 29.

An investigation determined that a stabbing occurred shortly after a fight ensued between a pair of men known to each other on the road near the intersection.

Police learned that the suspect accused of committing the stabbing, had also slashed the tires of a parked vehicle in front of the victim's home.

A 30-year-old Hanover man was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening stab wound to his abdomen. Police located and arrested the accused at a nearby residence a short time later. The weapon used in the incident was also recovered.

As a result, a 42-year-old Hanover man is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

He was taken back into policy custody following a court appearance. The investigation remains ongoing.
