Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh council approves budget

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh council has approved its budget for this year.

“At a recent meeting A-C-W council approved a levy increase of 10 per cent, which equates to a median tax increase of $99 a year, $8 a month or $0.47 a day,” Mayor Glen McNeil said.

McNeil said  that translates into a 7.17 per cent increase in the tax rate. He added they did have to take some money out of reserves to hold the increase at that level.

“We tried to keep the tax rate as low as humanly possible, with consideration as to the outside pressures, be it supply chain and the cost of inflation and we all face that,” McNeil said.

McNeil said we're all dealing with exceptional circumstances right now and council has to be responsible and exercise due diligence, and by using some money from reserves they were able to continue to deliver all of the services tax payers and residents have come to expect.
