Kincardine CT scans first patient

A Kincardine resident was pleased to become the first patient scanned on the new CT scanner at the Kincardine hospital.

Beryl Davies was scanned on Monday, and said it was good to be able to have the important test performed at her home hospital. Davies said it meant not having to rely on family members to take time off work to drive her to an appointment outside of Kincardine.

“The Kincardine physicians are thrilled to have the CT scanner operational,” said Dr. Lisa Roth, SBGHC Chief of Staff. “This will have an incredible impact on patient care for the Kincardine community and surrounding area.”

The Siemens “X.Cite” CT scanner arrived in Kincardine on Monday, February 27 from the Siemens production facility in Germany. It is now been commissioned in the 2,000 square foot addition to the hospital that is located directly south of the main entrance.

Several South Bruce Grey Health Centre Medical Radiation Technologists were trained at the Walkerton site, and also had some virtual training on the scanner at the Kincardine hospital.

The hands-on training will continue for a couple of months, and usage of the new Kincardine scanner will gradually increase over that time. In the meantime, the Walkerton CT department will continue accepting urgent requests.

Funding for this project was provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and the Government of Ontario. Bruce Power contributed a $1 million as well.
