Local police lay numerous charges following theft of vehicle

The Owen Sound Police Service have laid numerous charges following a vehicle theft from a local church parking lot.

During the early evening hours of March 2, police were contacted after a male suspect allegedly entered a church on the east side of Owen Sound and stole numerous items, including a cell phone and keys to a Lexus SUV. The suspect then stole the vehicle and left the scene.

Officers were able to track down the vehicle and found it at a Georgian Bluffs residence stuck in mud. Police arrested a 36-year-old man who was in possession of the vehicle. Investigators determined that a 26-year-old male was the suspect who allegedly stole the vehicle in the first place, and officers later tracked down and arrested that suspect. The 36-year-old male was released from custody, and the 26-year-old was held pending a bail hearing. They both have future court dates scheduled in Owen Sound.

While conducting the investigation, Owen Sound Police Service officers encountered a man who was experiencing a drug overdose. Officers administered two doses of Narcan, which temporarily reversed the effects of the overdose. The male, who was not connected to the vehicle investigation, was transported to local hospital where they were treated and later released from care.
