UPDATE: Winter weather could make travel hazardous in Midwestern Ontario

Motorists in Midwestern Ontario could face some hazardous road conditions this weekend.

A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for Huron and Perth Counties.

Environment Canada says a long-duration snowfall is expected to start Saturday evening and continue through Sunday afternoon. Up to 10 centimetres of snow is expected.

"If forecast snowfall amounts meet or exceed 15 centimetres in 12 hours then a snowfall warning might be issued," the statement read.

Environment Canada warned of significantly reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow.

Motorists are being asked to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, you should turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

"Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas," read the statement. "Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery."
