Saugeen Shores considering changes to zoning within the municipality

The Saugeen Shores Planning Committee has approved a recommendation to explore a Community Planning Permit System (CPPS).

A CPPS is a planning tool that combines zoning, site plan, and minor variance processes into one application.

A report conducted by the firm Hertel Planning revealed that by implementing a CPPS, it would encourage the building of a greater variety of homes in existing neighbourhoods. Also, the CPPS should be used to make it easier to build apartments in downtowns as already envisioned. The change would affect how the town plans out the municipality, such as what type of buildings go into a proposed area.

Council has directed staff to prepare a report early in the new year for further consideration. If approved at a later council meeting, it would take approximately one year to fully implement.
