The mayor of Wellington North has been elected as warden for the whole county.
Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox was officially selected to be Wellington County Warden at the county council meeting last Friday, November 25. Lennox is serving as warden for the first time, and will serve the 2022-24 term.
Lennox said he's very excited to serve as warden, and he said much like at the municipal level, his focuses county wide will be very similar.
"Housing and community growth are not only going to affect us at the local level, it will affect us at the county level, as well. Now with the changes that the province is imposing, or working on imposing around some of that is going to change the game a little bit," Lennox said. "We're experiencing very high inflation, and economic change in our society, lack of workforce, these are all issues where, there are no borders associated with them, these are issues across the entire county."
Also, Lennox says even though county governments don't have much of a hand in local healthcare, they do want to ensure they continue to lend a voice to the issues surrounding that.
"Doctor recruitment, and making sure that we have things in place so that our healthcare workers can do things. As community members, we want to pitch in and help with making sure our hospitals remain vibrant and viable," added Lennox.
Lennox was first a councillor in Wellington North in 2010 and was elected mayor in 2014. Serving previously on county council, Lennox has served on a number of committees, including Roads with 4 years as chair, Planning and Land Division with 2 years as chair, Administration, Finance and Human Resources, Wellington Federation of Agriculture and Association of Municipalities of Ontario – Waste Management Task Force.
