"Tiny Tim" recovering well after emergency surgery

A small stray kitten who desperately needed surgery to amputate a limb is doing much better.

Calla James of the Kitchener-Waterloo Stratford Perth Humane Society says the little kitten, dubbed "Tiny Tim" by staff needed a $4,000 surgery when they took him in last week, and the public came together to make it happen.

"He had his surgery yesterday (November 22) and we have some pictures that we took during recovery and he was doing really well after surgery. He will have a few weeks in foster care to recover, obviously, because it was a pretty major surgery. But he's been such a lovely boy with such a great personality and he's been so great with our staff, and is doing well," James shared.

As far as his future health is concerned, James says Tim shouldn't have too many future complications beyond regular arthritis, as the leg they removed was simply beyond repair.

"The way that surgery and removing it came together, it really was best for him because the break was just too extensive to repair, and we know these cats are pretty resilient. So they'll go on to live pretty normal lives after this type of surgery, just with three legs, but they're very, very resilient and do pretty well," added James.

Once news of Tiny Tim hit social media, the campaign to raise money for him to have the procedure came in very quickly. James says the public came together and raised the money in a day, with around $6,800 now raised.

"So with that money, that will go toward his cost of care and it will also go toward the cost of care for other animals like him that have recently received major surgery or other animals that will be requiring major surgeries," James said.

Tiny Tim will now recover in foster care before hopefully being adopted to a "furever" home. The humane society currently has many pets looking for a home, and you can find out more at http://kwsphumane.ca.
