Avon Maitland EQAO results lower than in the past

Schools throughout the Province were able to announced EQAO test results this year for the first time since 2019 as a result of the pandemic.

Avon Maitland Manager of Communications Chera Longston said the results were lower than in past across the Province and she adds, that was not surprising, given the interruptions of the pandemic.

“The shift from on line and self directed learning," explained Longston. "We've also had staffing issues in the recent past, which means that our central support staff have to be re-allocated to supporting schools, rather than doing professional development planning.”

Longston says they also weren't able to do any professional development during the pandemic and that was a huge concern, so she says the results were not only not surprising, but under the circumstances, predictable.

“And also, in a key way, getting back to professional development for our staff, because it's been amazing, actually, how the staff have been able to continue to deliver excellent education programming to students throughout this pandemic. So this is our chance to be able to get back to their professional learning,” she said.
