Michi to be new mayor in South Bruce Peninsula

The town of South Bruce Peninsula has a new mayor.

Garry Michi emerged victorious in a very tight race to defeat incumbent Janice Jackson.

Michi took 52.1% of the vote to Jackson's 45.5%. Donald Tedford was also running for mayor of South Bruce Peninsula before passing away suddenly on October 15.

"I'm just going to work hard for the citizens of South Bruce Peninsula" says Michi, who says his theory on governance is "to be more accessible to the public, and any major projects, have them taxpayer-driven."

Michi says he's been in South Bruce Peninsula for almost 50 years, knows most members of council and staff, and is excited to work with them over the next four years.

At press time, Jackson had not responded to a request for comment, but she was first elected in South Bruce Peninsula in 2010 as a councillor before being elected mayor in 2014. She was the sitting warden of Bruce County at the time of the election.
