COVID-19 outbreak declared at local hospital

Huron Perth Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Wingham and District Hospital.

A release on October 18 from HPPH and the Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance states that 5 patients and zero staff have been identified in the outbreak thus far.

"The definition of an outbreak at an acute care setting is when two or more patients and/or staff within a specified area with positive results from a PCR test, rapid molecular test or rapid antigen test within a 10 day period where both cases have reasonably acquired their infection in the acute care facility," the release shared.

The release also stated that "emergency department visits, ambulatory care services, operating room procedures, diagnostic imaging and specialist visits continue to occur. If you are not feeling well, or have COVID symptoms, do not come to the hospital except for necessary emergency care. There is currently no inpatient visiting permitted at this time."
