New skate park to be installed in Perth East

A group in Milverton has formed the Milverton All Wheels Park (MAWP) Committee to create a new skate park in Perth East.

So far, the committee has received the approval of the Perth East Council to proceed with plans for a $215 000, 40’ x 60’all wheels park. The park will be installed at the Perth East Recreation Complex. The township has agreed to hold the funds for the project and issue tax receipts for any donations over $10, as well as committing $20 000 to get the project started.

The fund is currently sitting at over $34,000 raised thanks to a donation from the Milverton Lions Club, as well as donations from local families. Further grant opportunities are being pursued as the committee prepares to officially launch its donation campaign in the community.

Youth and adult t-shirts and hats featuring the MAWP logo are now for sale at $20 a piece.

Next up, the club is planning a roll-a-thon where people can collect pledges and commit to rolling a certain distance (on a bike, scooter, skateboard, or rollerblades) on the newly paved trails at the PERC, or complete a scavenger hunt around Milverton.

The OPP will also be running a bike safety rodeo at the event which is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th, at the new PERC Pavilion.
