"Caring Benches" to be installed in Bruce County

A means of trying to combat loneliness and isolation is coming to local Bruce County communities.

The Caring Committee from the local Canadian Federation of University Women are bringing "Caring Benches" to Port Elgin and Southampton. The idea behind the benches is to encourage people to sit and start meaningful conversations, and the benches are "for everyone, young, old, rich, poor, happy, sad, lonely, and not so lonely." The release for the benches says "We have more things in common with one another than we will ever know, unless we take the time to chat." The benches will be installed in Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin, and by the Art School in Southampton.

Caring Benches can be identified by their bright blue colour and brass plaque which reads Spend time, Share time. A dedication ceremony in Coulter Parkette will be on Thursday, September 1st at 10 a.m. The ceremony in Southampton will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 10 a.m.
