Former justice, Goderich councillor passes

A long serving Goderich councillor and judge has passed away.

Jim Donnelly passed away on Sunday, he was 92.

He was first elected to Goderich town council in 1955 at the age of 25. He served until 1959, and at that time took over the family law practice.

In 1985 he was appointed to what is now known as the Superior Court of Justice and served for 20 years.

Donnelly then returned to municipal politics in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014, serving as deputy mayor for the four year term. He served his last term as a councillor from 2018 until his retirement in April of this year.

Beyond his professional life and political career, Donnelly also played and coached fastball and was an avid horse racing enthusiast.

The eulogy and funeral is Thursday at 10:45 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Goderich and masks are required.
